Summer is ending with continued mild weather. Forecasters predict a rainy fall and especially winter.
We'll start with the felids. After four months without seeing mountain
lions, we had two visits this month, two weeks apart, from different
individuals I believe. The first is slender, possibly young, perhaps
female. The one in the nighttime video clips seems stockier,
possibly male.
We also saw bobcats. Here is a photo and video of a female with two kittens at the Adobe Creek Crossing in morning light.
And a night video of a bobcat with a single kit, taken 10 days earlier at a new mountaintop spring camera placed by docent Christian Naventi:
This new camera also captured a feral hog wallowing in mud, and a kestrel
flying away, plus these videos of a wary coyote in daylight
and a great horned owl at night. This spring provides one of the last
water sources on the upper mountain in late summer.
Deer were plentiful as usual. Here is a buck on the hillside forest trail and a group of females/juveniles at the Adobe creek crossing at dawn:
Rounding it out, we have a feral boar. This appears to be the same individual we see at the same spot, but only about once per month.
And a rather elegant looking skunk in daylight.
